September 11 - 15 Week at a Glance

Dear Parents and Families,

We look back on a wonderful first week at General Currie Elementary!  Once again, we extend a warm welcome to you all and look forward to the school year in front of us!

Please see our attached Week at a Glance (WAAG) with photos of our first days together and information for the week ahead.

Students have now met their new teachers moved to their classes for the coming school year.  Except for very extenuating circumstances, once students have been moved into their classes, there will be no further changes made.  We are excited for our new class groups to connect and look forward to new adventures in learning ahead!

At this time, we would like to bring your attention to items of importance as we continue our startup:

Website

Please visit our school website regularly at General Currie Website.  You will find the WAAG posted weekly on our site.  With our school startup, please review important information posted Friday regarding Traffic Safety in School Zones.

Save the Date: Thursday, September 21st Meet the Teacher and Family Picnic

We are looking very forward to meeting with all of you at our Meet the Teacher/Family Picnic event!  We are happy to combine these events together once again and hope that many of you will be able to join us.  On the 21st, we look forward to inviting families into our classrooms to meet staff starting at 4 pm.  This will be followed by introductions outside which will lead into our family picnic time together (4 - 6:30 pm).

Entry/Exit Lineups

Please note: students will continue to line up outside to meet their teachers at 8:45 am each morning (our warning bell rings at 8: 40).  Teaching staff will continue to bring students outside to you at dismissal (2:45 pm).  In order to continue to avoid too much congestion in our hallways, we will not be dismissing students at our classroom doors.  Thank you for continuing to meet us outside!

Student Dismissal

Parents: we continue to notice that a number of our students do not go home at dismissal time with an adult and remained unsupervised on the school playground, some for a significant extended period of time.   **Students are not supervised by school staff beyond dismissal time.  They are under your supervision and care from the time of dismissal and should be picked up by a designated adult at 2:45 pm.   It is very important that you please communicate any changes in pick up arrangement, at any time, with your child’s teacher and/or with the office.

Any of our Intermediate students returning to the school playground following a check in at home at the end of the day, without adult supervision, must have parent permission each time.  We care about your child(ren)’s safety and thank our parents in advance for making arrangements to ensure their continued safety beyond our dismissal time each day!

Lunch and Snack preparations

As throughout the past two school years, we will not be taking lunch drop-offs this year.  Students should come to school fully prepared for the entire school day.  Should a student forget their snack or lunch, they should come to the office where food items can be provided.

If you have an appointment in our school building, we ask that you please sign in at the desk at the rotunda directly across from the main entrance door.  If it is just a short drop-by (i.e. question for our office staff or something to drop off) please come to the office service window.  All inquiries/communications can also always be made by telephone from 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.  Our office number is (604) 668-6440.

That is all for now and we look forward to continuing in our new class settings through the school week in front of us!  As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our school office.  Many best wishes as we continue with start up.  We thank our families, as ever, for all your enthusiasm and positive energy as you support our team at General Currie!

With gratitude,

Mr. Sala      Ms. Pikkarainen      General Currie Staff
