Evidence Post Spring 2025
What targeted actions are being taken?
|
What gap or problem does this action aim to address?
|
Based on quantitative and qualitative data, how effectively has this action addressed the identified gap or problem?
|
How will we move forward accordingly? What are our next steps?
|
- Staff will focus on integrating specific strategies to support comprehension and vocabulary building.
- Staff will use collaboration time to plan the implementation of teaching and learning strategies such as: morning message (Kindergarten)
explode the sentence, and making connections in pre reading strategies
|
During a scan of our students’ literacy skills, we identified:
- Very few students reported reading at home for pleasure
- Approximately 26% of students were emerging in their literacy skills (based on 2023 FSA data)
- 38.7% of students were Emerging or Developing in English Language Arts (based on the June 2024 Summative Learning Update)
|
One of our Kindergarten teachers reported these observations after implementing a ”morning message” on a daily basis:
- Students began reading the message independently
- Students began “playing with the words”, and finding joy in creating sentences with their new vocabulary
- Students started looking for the new words that they learned in books, and then writing them in their journals
|
Our next steps for the 2025/26 year will be:
- Implement a school wide reading assessment to track our students’ progress over several years, and to identify areas to target during the school year
- Develop school wide initiatives to encourage and cultivate a love of reading for pleasure
- Continue to track “reading for pleasure” data through the Learning Survey
- Continue to track report card data in literacy from year to year
