Gathering Student Voice

When our Spring data illuminated the need to gather more student voice about literacy learning, we adapted questions from the book The Spiral Playbook, by Linda Kaser and Judy Halbert, and asked students about their learning. We asked:

  • What are you learning in English Language Arts?
  • Why is this important?

We recognize that students share their learning and thinking in different ways. We gathered their feedback using a variety of strategies:

  • survey questionnaire for Intermediate students
  • Big & Little buddies - shared reading experience followed by small group conversations
  • large group (K - 7) discussions

Our next step is to analyze the data collected to surface some key themes, and, as a staff, decide how to use this information in connection to planning and teaching.
